500 Gm Catla Fish Fish Rohu
1 No Medium Onion finely cut
2 Tablespoon Coriander leaf Finely chopped
1 Teaspoon Garam Masala
1 Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
1 Teaspoon Red Chili Powde
2 No Red Chilli
1 Teaspoon Cumin Seed / Jeera
2 No Bay Leaf
To taste Salt
7 Tablespoon Mustard Oil
2 Cup Water
For grind
2 Inch Ginger
20 No Garlic Clove
4 No Medium Onion Cut into 4 pieces
1 No Medium Tomato Cut into 4 pieces

Fish Masala Curry is one of the favorite food Odisha or West Bengal RECIPE MENU. Rohu is called as ‘Rohi’ in Odia and ‘Rui’ in Bengali. Rohu Fish Curry is an absolute delight of taste.Orissa cuisine is very similar to Bengali cuisine. The flavor of Oriya food is milder. This delicacy is simple preparation in which the fish is cooked with some indian spices and flavored  masala paste.

Wash the Catlla/Rohu fish pieces and drain off all the water. Add 1 tsp turmeric powder and 1 tsp salt and mix well


Place a non-stick pan on medium flame and add 2 tbsp mustard oil.
Once hot, add the Rohu fish pieces to the pan.
Fry for 4 mins and then flip.
Continue this till the pieces becomes golden brown.
Remove the fried fish and keep it aside in a plate. Repeat this for the rest of the fish pieces.


Grind the garlic, ginger, onion, tomato and 2 tbsp water to form a paste.


Heat the pan used above and add 2 tbsp mustard oil.

Once hot, add red dry chili and 1 tsp cumin seeds.

Once the cumin seeds crackle, add finely chopped onion and stir fry until golden.

Now add bay leaf and stir for 1 min.


Add the grind masala paste, turmeric powder, 2 tsp salt and 1 tsp chili powder to the pan and stir fry for 10 to 15 mins.

Add finely chopped tomato and stir fry for 5 mins.

Now add garam masala. Stir fry for 5 mins.

Add 2 cups water and mix well.

Now add the fish pieces to the gravy and cover the pan for 3 mins.

Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot with rice.
