1.5 cups Dry Coconut Shredded
0.25 cup Urad Bean Black gram split
0.25 cup Garbanzo bean / Channa dal
1 teaspoon Asafoetida / Hing
To taste Salt
4 teaspoon Coconut Oil
15 No Red Chilli Do adjust family spicy taste

Coconut Podi or coconut powder is mainly used in most of the brahmin family. This easy thengai podi is very similar to our Idly podi version with slight variation and addition of Coconut. This is one such easy handy recipe , Yeah you just need to make the hot steaming rice and pappad , you can mix it with podi or else can have it as a side dish for curd rice . Some times i love to take it with our south indian tiffin varieties idly /dosai.

Take a kadai add 4 tablespoons of oil once hot saute a red chilly along with solid hing once the color turns then take it from the kadai in the same pan add the channa dal and urad dal saute till the color changes. Then off the flame , take the dals in the same pan after the flame off add the coconut just give a mix. No need to saute it in the flame wait until reddish brown color and cool.

Fry the coconut to a reddish brown color and cool.

Allow all the mixtures to cool down . Then grind the channa dal, urad dal ,red chilly , hing along with solid.
Just coarsely powder then add the coconut and grind it ,

Then allow it cool completely


Store it in the air tight box and serve it along with hot steaming Rice, Drizzle ghee or coconut oil , along with serve some pappad , or kootu . Its divine and light .
